Individual Counseling - children/adolescents/teens

I work with children from ages 3 to young adult using a variety of best practice evidence - informed therapy modalities. I have over 15 years training and experience supporting children and families impacted by traumatic events and other mental health and behavioral concerns.

Individual and Caregiver Counseling - adults

When a child has endured a significant traumatic incident or life affecting event, it is only normal for their caregiver to feel the impact as well. I also provide treatment for caregivers who are seeking their own individual counseling as well as trauma informed parenting support, so they can also receive the guidance and compassion they deserve.

Group Therapy - teens

Resiliency Family Therapy will soon begin a an education/support group for teens who have been impacted by challenging life events and who may now be reacting with high risk behaviors, such as self harm, truancy, oppositional defiance and sexual activity.

Therapy Modalities:

  • TFCBT is one of the most researched and effective trauma treatments for children ages 5 to young adulthood. I was originally trained in this model in 2010 and then recertified in 2021. TFCBT works with the client at their speed (generally 4 to 8 months in duration) allowing them to establish a foundation of healthy coping strategies as they work toward empowerment over their adverse experiences. The client is encouraged to use their own strengths, talents and creativity as they increase resilience and healing.

  • For younger children and their families, finding an effective treatment model that can address problematic behaviors, while also enhancing parental bonds and attachment, can be challenging. Through my extensive trainings and experience with child centered play therapy and Parent Child Interaction Therapy, I am able to facilitate a Family based model which allows caregivers to interact directly with their child while the therapist provides live support and feedback. Through the play based interactions, the child and caregivers will build healthy communication and connection and decrease parental stress and concerning behaviors displayed by the child.

  • PSR is a highly effective treatment model designed for teens who are currently displaying risky and concerning behaviors. PSR can be facilitated in either group or individual therapy formats and focuses on addressing behaviors that include high risk sexual activity, self harming, running away, substance use and/or other related symptoms.

  • After a traumatic incident occurs (anything from sexual abuse, domestic violence, parental separation, car accidents, bullying, etc.) the whole family is significantly impacted. CFTSI is a short term (6 - 8 sessions) evidence based family model to address these unsettling events and help the family to return to a more healthy state of wellbeing.

  • Psychodynamic and CBT are two of the most familiar and constructive approaches to symptom reduction. Through psychodynamic therapy (often known as traditional talk therapy) I can assist the client with better understanding and identifying areas of distress through examination of their past experiences.

CBT focuses more on the interplay of one’s thoughts and the effect they have on one’s feelings and behaviors. We often get stuck in a loop of unhealthy thinking which then increases feelings of sadness, anxiety and/or anger which then takes a toll on our behaviors and relationships. By analyzing this loop and implementing strategies, we can take more of an active roll on how we chose to think, which can then lead to more desirable behavioral outcomes.

  • Parent Child Interaction Therapy is an evidence-based therapy designed to improve the relationship between the caregiver and child.

PCIT is focuses on enhancing communication, building trust, and managing behavior in a positive way.

PCIT is typically for kids between ages 2-6, however, some adaptations have been made for older children and teens to help improve strained relationships between parents and adolescents. Since each child and family is unique we will work with each family based on their need and situation.

  • Perinatal Mental Health Therapy is specialized therapy designed to support individuals during pregnancy and the first year postpartum. This type of therapy focuses on the emotional, psychological, and physical challenges that can arise during this critical period.

Perinatle mental health adresses different issues that may arise during or after a pregnancy such as:

    • Birth Trauma & PTSD – Processing difficult or traumatic birth experiences.

    • Postpartum Adjustment & Identity Changes – Supporting new parents in navigating their changing roles and relationships.
